Sam Yates
Assistant Access and Inclusion Consultant: GRD:EDI
Sam has a professional background working in commercial property (as a solicitor) and education (teaching History and Law).
As a parent and carer, he also has many years of ‘lived experience’ of the wide range of access and inclusion challenges that the built environment can present to people with physical impairments (especially wheelchair users).
In practice this has required funding and overseeing extensive adaptations at home and advocating for specific works as 'reasonable adjustments' in schools and at university.
Sam is a volunteer at Leeds Civic Trust, providing access and inclusion advice on the Planning Committee and the Heritage Open Days group.
He has completed the NRAC Inclusive Design Training Course for Built Environment Professionals and the CAE course on Access to Historic Buildings and Environments. Sam is also a member of the Access Association.
